I'll admit...I have a lot of them. I struggle with insecurity about being a good enough mom, artist, friend etc... If you know me well you know that I bring up my faults easily. It's a defense mechanism. I point them all out first, so you know that I know that I know them. Crazy huh??
Anyway I just came across this amazing quote that I saved months ago. When I read it again it really spoke to me, because this is how I want to live my life...fearless, no holding back, not afraid of making mistakes, not giving up without a fight, not worrying about what people think, enjoying every minute of every day...chasing those lions! Just wanted to share it with you:)

"Quit living as if the purpose of life is to arrive safely at death.
Grab life by the mane.
Set God-sized goals. Pursue God-ordained passions.
Go after a dream that is destined to fail without divine intervention.
Keep asking questions. Keep making mistakes. Keep seeking God.
Stop pointing out problems and become part of the solution.
Stop repeating the past and start creating the future.
Stop playing it safe and start taking risks.
Expand your horizons. Accumulate experiences.
Consider the lilies. Enjoy the journey.
Find every excuse you can to celebrate everything you can.
Live like today is the first day and last day of your life.
Don't let what's wrong with you keep you from worshipping what's right with God.
Burn sinful bridges. Blaze a new trail.

Criticize by creating. Worry less about what people think and more about what God thinks.
Don't try to be who you're not. Be yourself. Laugh at yourself.
Quit holding out. Quit holding back. Quit running away.
Chase the lion." - Mark Batterson
DELIVERANCE is coming! I'm chasing that Lion:)
Have a blessed day.

Love that, thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteBecky that was beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI want to read that book so much in fact I am going to try to get it tomorrow. I hear so many good and eyeopening things about it. I too apologize for my faults before anyone else can and 9 times out of 10... they would not have been noticed if I did not point them out!
Work in progress!
Many Blessings
Patricia
Fantastic blog!
ReplyDeleteI’m anthropologist currently doing a study of the blogging subculture, and your blog has a special interest for me. If you don’t mind dropping by my site and maybe participating in the study I’d be more that grateful.

Love this post -- and I have the same defense mechanism. I'll readily point things out before people get the chance to so that way I "save" myself from their ridicule and criticism.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll order this book. It's been on my wishlist, but I think it's time to actually READ it! :)
it sounds like you are growing and developing your "life within"
ReplyDeletei do think you are up for my challenge tomorrow.....
I so loved this post. This is exactly what I needed to read right now. I am still trying to deal with my Toxic Person so I needed reminding of who I am suppose to be doing things for, God not others. I think I might have to check out Beth's book also, you have really opened my eyes and I love the quit pointing out problems and be part of the solution!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the sweet comment on my Keep Calm sign!
P.S. I just grabbed your button to put on my blog :)
You inspire me!
Amen, sister!

Good stuff! I needed to read that. I would say you definitely hit the target for me today:-) It's pretty awesome how you can write something down and it reaches out and touches so many hearts.
ReplyDeleteI just read your comment. Thanks for dropping in. As for my getting the hang of the techy stuff... the only reason my blogsite even looks decent is because you are the kindhearted person that you are, and gave me a helping hand:-) If not for you, it would still look pretty darn pitiful. Thanks again Becky! You are the coolest! Is that still cool? I don't know what is actually "cool" now...
ReplyDeleteWell said. I need to get that book.... we all struggle.
ReplyDeleteThat's the spirit girl!!! God is always at work :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Erin
This made me think of the Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe when the children ask if Aslan is a tame lion and the beaver, incredulous, says "Tame?!" Of course he's not tame, but he's good. :)
ReplyDeleteOh Becky. Thank you for sharing these words. I think we all struggle with this from time to time. I certainly do!
ReplyDeleteMy pastor once told me "You can only do one of two things with your past.. You can learn from it OR you can repeat it." I have carried those words in my heart every day since.. now I will also carry yours. Thanks!;-)
Wonderful post! Super inspiring quote, thank you for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteRight up my alley today!! Incredible quote! giggling a bit ~ because I point out my faults quickly too! I can't wait to find time to read that book... I hear it is wonderful! (of course it will probably summer if I am being honest with myself! ha ha!) Encouraging... and inspiring.. kinda reminds me of something... =) It applies to Seizing My Day... =)
ReplyDeleteJust Jenn~
You go girl...that Lion is really just an old pussy cat! I say, never point out your faults...never! In my eyes, you have none and I KNOW that God sees none in you either...none! :D
ReplyDeleteI have heard nothing but amazing things about that book. I love all the sayings..love them. Great encouragement for anyone!
ReplyDeleteInspiring post. Kudos. "Stop pointing out problems and become part of the solution." - Now that's my problem! You've got some inspirational stuff here...regardless of what religion one belongs to. After all, lofty ideals know no religion or boundaries. Though, after reading your blog, I think I may be reading the wrong books...
ReplyDeleteTake care you bloggers' subculture guru and keep on inspiring us! ;-)
Wonderful! I loved it!

Hi Becky. I am wondering if I am supposed to get a message here, because I was just a Kate's Life and she is doing a little reading group on this book. Non-fiction is a little scary for me right this very minute...but I am thinking of giving it a go. So much of what you said is true for me too. Thanks for the inspiring post!

ReplyDeleteBecky,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the amazing post! We are VERY much alike. I feel as though I wear my insecurities on my sleeve. I struggle with the same things, about being a good mom to my two little girls, about being a good wife, friend and about the extra weight I never lost after my second daughter was born 8 months ago.
I am definitely going to read this after I finish reading Calm My Anxious Heart.
Happy Monday!
XO,
Kerri
Fantastic post!!!!!

ReplyDeleteWow Becky, that is an awesome quoted text! "Grab life by the mane" will forever stick in my head. Now to apply it! Wouldn't grab life by the mane, make a great painting creation?
ReplyDeleteBeth Moore's book is at the top of my books to purchase list.

Lee Ann
Great quote, thanks for sharing! I've been reading Beth's book as well. I just read, cry and read again. Did you know she has a weekly reading assignment on her blog? Check it out if you have a chance!
ReplyDeleteI just have to tell you that this is SO TRUE. Oh i think i´ve read this before, or maybe not be i´ve been trying to make my life better with a lot of the things mentioned above, you know what helped me, reading The Secret.
ReplyDeleteWe are here to live outloud!!!!
Our pastor once told a story about a father praying with his small son at bedtime. His son asked him to pray for safety. Instead his father prayed, "Lord, make my son dangerous." Your post reminded me of that. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteAlison
Yep! Printing it out....as many as I have to and putting them all over my walls. This is awesome and just perfect. Praying you chase after your lions and make all your dreams come true and all insecurities fall fast away. p.s. I have that same habit of telling my faults....oh my.
ReplyDeleteOrdering that book. I keep hearing amazing things about it and well Beth has never had something to say or write that my heart didn't need to hear.
Happy week to you Miss Becky!
oh becky! i am the same! i do worry what people think and how they see me. and i too, blurt out my faults so they know i know whats wrong with me. thank you for sharing about your insecurity and that awesome quote. words to live by! xo
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! Why do we sometimes get paralyzed by our own insecurities? It's not easy retraining your brain to think confidently forward instead of getting stuck on perceived faults. Gonna have to get the book, you're the fourth person to mention it today! Wishing you sunshine!
ReplyDeleteLove it, Love it, Love it! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDelete"It's never to late to become who God intends you to be!"

ReplyDeleteBecky,
ReplyDeleteI have been following your blog for awhile now and today's really spoke to me! Many of your posts have, but I haven't stopped to take the time to let you know. I thought it was about time. I think of the Lion from The Chronicles of Narnia as a brave, wise, strong figure too and think that is another interesting perspective to keep in mind too! Thank you for sharing the quote with us!
Andrea

I love Beth Moore, and will have to see about that book. The quote really hits the spot--thank you for sharing it with us. We have something and Someone that we can be so sure of, yet we tend to focus on what we are unsure of. . .
ReplyDeleteI've got to read that book.
ReplyDeleteLove the poem -thanks for the reminder!
-Trish
Thank you for this post! I can relate as I find myself holding back a lot. I keep reminding myself that I just need to go for it, take action, chase my dream with full commitment... stop worrying about what people think and just create... So this really hits home for me.
