I promised earlier in the Summer I would show you pictures of our backyard. These were taken from our deck. This is our lovely view. I absolutely love this farm and so I used it for my header picture as well.

We have a road right behind our house. It was a tough decision whether to put up a fence or use trees as a natural barrier. Back home in Illinois it seems every one has a fence and there is a part of me that likes that actual barrier. But it seems that in Minnesota people lean toward the natural approach, so we decided to go with the big pine trees.

I really love the way it looks. Of course they will get much larger and eventually grow together somewhat.

My honey with the sun in his eyes. Don't look too close at the deck. I need to sand and restain it...ugh!

My favorite part of our yard...this swing. It's tucked under the deck and we can come out and just swing and relax. It views the farm and oh...that's where I should be right now:)

Earlier this summer I showed you my "garden box project". Well this is the outcome. I have had an abundance of onions, peppers and basil. I'm still waiting on my tomatoes. But I think we'll have a lot when the time finally arrives. I've discovered that I'm a lazy gardener. From trial and error I will rethink my planting a bit next year;)

I'm going to have to freeze these. I saw that you can just cut the tops off and freeze them in a baggy for up to a year. They are super hot... I know this because I took a bite of one of them just to see. I kid you not my lips, tongue and throat were on FIRE for a good 30 minutes...wowza!

Last but not least, one of the several blimps that hit our town this week for the PGA championship. What an exciting thing to see, these quiet giants floating around all week long. It was really something. Kind of glad and sad that it's over. Our little town is back to normal.

I have always wondered if that was the view from your home......wow, it is GORGEOUS!!!! I am very envious!
ReplyDeleteYour garden seems huge to me and I love that you are growing vegetables....how lovely!
And that swing.....never mind that where YOU should be.....that's where WE should be.... having coffee, cookies and chatting LOL ;)
Happy Thursday honey :)
The responsibility falls on me to mention that even your GRASS is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMy Mr. would insist on cross cutting it; baseball-field-style, and then he'd stand on the deck, admiring it, with the sun in his eyes. And I'd yell from the swing between sips of lemonade, "THAT DECK AIN'T GONNA SAND ITSELF, YOU KNOW!!!"
Cuz I'm classy like that. =)
Thanks for sharing the great view! My son walked in the other night while I was reading your blog and saw the picture on your header and said "That looks nice, can we live there?" (We're a military family, so we have moved many times.) I told him that I would *love* to live there!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness!!! I would never be inside!!! What a delightful! Beautiful!!! backyard!!!!!...and the red barn is just a dream!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Blessings!
Jill

ReplyDeletethose pines will make a nice barrier~much better than a fence...you won't have to sand and stain them!!!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip on the peppers. I didn't know you could freeze them! We are getting quite a bit, too, so that is good to know! :-)

ReplyDeleteSo peaceful and serene!
ReplyDeleteBecky! So sorry I have been missing lately! I have missed you girl! I had to read through and catch up on all your happenings...the leap of faith thing really spoke to me, because we are in the process of praying about one such leap ourselves. It was so encouraging to read it, and thanks for the admonition to be Brave and trust Him.
ReplyDeleteAdore your backyard...but my favorite picture was your hubby surveying his mowed lawn! :) It reminded me of those mornings that me and mine spend together on our sunporch with coffee in hand...on the porch swing or wing back chairs.
Love ya!
Wow I so wish I had a backyard like that! I love it. We are going to do a box like yours in the fall {well we really don't have a fall but they says it's the best time to grow here in Florida}
ReplyDeletewowsers...
ReplyDeleteWhat a blessing!
I can see my kids running like crazy there...It's so beautiful!

OOOOOH I love everything!!! your yard is wonderful, I love the swing and your deck, and the little copper finial(i dont know what to call them) thingies. I watched the golf tour, I was forced, but the buzz around town is always alot of fun when the PGA makes it your way.
ReplyDeleteDear farmgirl,Thanks for the visit to your backyard. The farm across the street is sensational, especially since so many are disappearing across the US. Do I wish I had some of your peppers mine did not do well so no fresh salsa this year but stop by later I am going to be making pesto! Have a great day! Meg
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these pictures. Your backyard is big and beautiful. I love your swing!

Came across your blog and wanted to say I love your backyard. Looks awesome and the swing...I'd be all over that if we had a place for one.
ReplyDeleteMy garden sounds exactly like yours. This year was my first shot at trying one out. I have toooo many peppers and my tomatoes are still green but I'm sure they'll get there soon :)
Beautiful backyard and lovely blog header photo. I just followed my nose from another blog to yours. I have to take a look around. -- Michele

ReplyDeleteI LOVE the area under your deck!!! :)
ReplyDeleteyour grass is so thick and green! and i love your swing...so peaceful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I'm lovin' the pine tree barrier, and porch swings are the greatest. We recently got ours put up and I love spending my mornings out there with my two fellas and a cup of coffee. I think everybody needs a place to retreat outdoors. Thanks for sharing your spot!
ReplyDeleteHi! It's beautiful. I love the swing. Love it! What a great place to spend time with your family.
ReplyDeleteHey you have an absolutely lovely blog!
ReplyDelete:)
Soooooo, your yard is gorgeous and your grass looks like a golf green. Beautiful! So glad you have a beautiful view to sit in your swing and rest your soul my friend.
ReplyDeleteCan I move in with you? Its so incredibly gorgeous! And I can't believe that picture in your header is the view from your back yard?!
ReplyDeleteI thought we here in Wisconsin were the only ones who say "wowza"
ReplyDeleteLove the view AND the swing! Enjoying following you. Jump on over.
ReplyDeleteHa, ha- I felt like Elvira for about three days myself... this is a week out now and it's much more "me" (whatever that is...)
ReplyDeleteHi Becky,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your lovely view! Way back when...whilst visiting us in Wa...my Auntie and my Minnesotan cousin Sonjia said, and I quote, "The mountains get in the way of the view!" Now that's just nutty!!! But I still think they are great.
: )

Oh my ~ I LOVE your view! And the swing... I will be right over. Sadly with my baby girl, I would have to choose a fence (dog here, not child) but the trees are the way to go. They will provide shade and make your yard a sanctuary.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words today - they mean a lot.
What a great view and yard! By the way those really hot peppers are awesome filled with cheese and baked, serve them with some spanish rice and beans for a dee-lish supper. Great tip for freezing them. I thought I was a great gardener in Ohio but it was all Mother Nature then I moved to Texas and all my plants died.. too much heat. Now I'm a lazy gardener, wait too busy to garden with two little ones. Thank goodness for the Farmers Market!
ReplyDeleteBecky, of course you know how much I love your header .... a view that is right up my alley! What a sweet yard you have, and hubby ain't bad either! It all fits, two lovely little girls, a great hubby, a beautiful home with a cozy yard backing a country road and view of a farm!!!! What more can a girl ask for? Count your blessings and live each day with joy in your heart! xo
ReplyDeleteUm, Helllo? Those veggies are GREAT! You did a wonderful job!
ReplyDeleteAnd I think your view is beautiful and the swing is beautiful-er. :)
Wow, that's quite a harvest!!
ReplyDeleteAmazingly beautiful!! I wasn't looking at the deck needing refinishing, but rather that you HAVE a beautiful deck, with beautiful view, and beautiful garden to boot!! It's all lovely. And I agree: my favorite place is the shaded swing under the porch. Ahhh... nice!
ReplyDeleteBecky~ Your backyard is gorgeous!!! Can I hire you to do my 1 acre front yard LOL!! I can't bring myself to do all that work :)
ReplyDeleteI love that view you have of the farm there. And I love it as your header picture!! It's absolutely stunning!!
Those peppers turned out great!!
What beautiful pictures!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Sits Saturday Sharefest!
Happy SITS Saturday! Wow, can I have your yard or have someone come out & fix up mine? LOL. Just beautiful & you got loads of peppers - I've yet to get one out of my garden.
ReplyDeleteAwesome pictures, and the ones on the next post of the flowers you painted are beautiful, too!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the swing, of course, and all of it!
Thank you for your comments!
If my yard looked like that I would never leave home!
ReplyDeleteYour view is amazing! Living on a farm myself, I love farm-scapes. I just found your blog... found it linked on another blog I was reading! I am going to become a fan... check out my blog at www.thefarmertakesawife.blogspot.com I also read A Holy Experience too, seems we have some common interests! Love your creativity and your writing! ~ Tracie
ReplyDeleteI know this is an older post, but I just had to comment. I recently found your blog and I love it so I've been snooping around looking at your past posts and found this one with your backyard. Lucky you! I'm a native SoCal girl so to think anyone lives with a yard and a view like that is amazing. My backyard is literally like 20 feet deep and my neighbors behind and to both sides of me are like "hi" neighbor distance away. Thanks for a really fun, inspirational, authentic blog. Love it!
